HOW TO PLAY THE AFRICAN LEKOLILO
- Hold the pipe in your left hand
- Place the end of the pipe on your lips in the left corner of your mouth
- Seal the outside edge of the pipe on your lips and keep the inside edge of the pipe open
- Tighten you lips into an O shape and blow into the pipe so you hear the air flowing down the pipe….it is important to hear this sound
- Make very small adjustments in the angle of the pipe against your lips until you get the flute sound and then keep the pipe in this position
- It is also helpful to try to whistling while blowing down the pipe since this helps tighten the lips
- Once you are producing the fluting sounds try singing through the pipe.
- It is also possible to whistle and flute and the same time
- By using your index finger of the hand holding the pipe you can open and close the end of the pipe which doubles the amount of notes your can play. It is possible to play conventional tunes such as Nkosi, Click Song, Meadow lands, In the jungle, etc on this pipe
